Coyhaique will give you access to extensive private waters, loaded with beautiful Brown and Rainbow trout. Our special locations promise to show you the best fly fishing of Chilean Patagonia. Our operations are designed to satisfy even the most discriminating customers.

The Waters

To match our quality and pristine waters, we offer you quantity and quality fly fishing. We specialize in sight fishing with dry flies, the most exciting way to catch fish. You will see Patagonia from a privileged position while fly fishing in our comfortable "Cata rafts", walking, wading, or using belly boats.

Your personal angling preferences can be easily accommodated.

Perhaps you want to fly fish where no one has ever fished! It is not impossible here but be prepared for a few days out and a long walk. Our guests fly fish on a variety of waters from small streams to large rivers and lakes for famous "Patagonian Brown Trout", Rainbow trout and King Salmon (Chinook).

Some of the rivers that we guide on are:

Rio Simpson, Rio Coyhaique, Rio Paloma, Rio Huemules, Rio Nireguao, Rio Blanco, Rio Emperador Guillermo, Rio Mañihuales, and the many lakes of Cerro Castillo area.

The fishing season in Chilean Patagonia runs from the second Saturday of November to the second Sunday of April.

Francisco Vilches

"Pancho" as his friends call him, was born in central Chile in 1983. He has been fly fishing since he was ten years old and guiding from the age of sixteen. Pancho has fished the big salt water fish of Colombia and Cuba to the delicate and selective trout in France.

After graduating from high school he decided to make fly fishing his life and went to Montana to become certified as a fly fishing guide at the prestigious Sweet Water Travel Guide School.

He also participates in the certification of fly fishing guides in Chile endorsed by Gabriela Mistral University.

He has worked as a fly fishing guide and fly casting instructor at several leading lodges in Chile.

In 2008, after 4 years in college, he graduated with a degree in "Administration in Ecotourism" from Andres Bello University in Santiago. And he started his own fly fishing company “Chile Trout" He speaks Spanish and English.

Pancho has compiled a list of quality guides in the area to serve larger numbers of anglers.

Diego Guerrero

Diego has a degree in Ecotourism Administration and has been guiding in Patagonia since 2000.

Born in Santiago Chile, Diego moved to Coyhaique to persue his passion of guiding fly fishers.

He tried the office jobs but the outdoors kept calling.

He has worked as a fly fishing guide and fly casting instructor at several leading lodges in Chile.

A gentleman and intuitive guide, Diego will find fish in all conditions.

The Program: Coyhaique Area

This program consists of a 7-day trip in the 11th region of Chile called the "Aysen Region" located between 45 degrees south latitude and 72 degrees west longitude.

Our staff will be waiting at the Balmaceda Airport in order to assist you with luggage and transport you one hour to the "Salmo Patagonia Lodge" which is located on a plateau overlooking town of Coyhaique. Skirted by the Coyhaique National Reserve property with hiking trails, beautiful flora and fauna - the lodge property is haven for Alpaca and European Hare. Your mind will escape the complexities of life as Andean Condor and Cara Cara glide past catching the morning thermal winds.

We will fish the rivers and lakes of this area for 5 days testing our skills against the fabled Patagonian Brown Trout. These Rivers include the Rio Simpson, Rio Coyhaique, Ardillas Lake, Paloma Lake and others.

You will feel at one with nature as this paradise is located far from the pavement and power lines of the city.

Evenings at the Lodge provide a chance to share in our thoughts about our experience in Patagonia over drinks and fine food with good friends.

The Fishing

You will have the opportunity to fish 5 days at 5 different locations. The diversity of fisheries offers the angler a little of everything - from small streams to large rivers and lakes for world renowned "Patagonian Brown Trout" and Rainbow trout.

Depending on the water and weather conditions, we fish by floating the "Catarafts", walking, wading or using float tubes.

The Program: Coyhaique - Baker River

We will fish the rivers and lakes of this area for 6 days testing our skills against the fabled Patagonian Brown Trout. These Rivers include the Rio Simpson, Coyhaique, Schein, Paloma Lake and others.

The Austral Highway will lead our 4x4s through some of the most beautiful scenery that Chilean Patagonia has to offer during our 5-hour journey toward the Rio Baker. A multitude of bird life, jaw dropping vistas and the chance to observe a wild and rare South Andean Deer (Huemul) will keep you from nodding off during the drive.

The Green Baker Lodge is nestled on the banks of the Rio Baker and will be our home for the next 5 days. Here we will have our best chance of catching migratory species such as Rainbow Trout, lake run Browns and Chinook salmon. You will feel at one with nature as this paradise is located far from the pavement and power lines of the city.

Our last evening will occur back in Coyhaique at SPL - back to familiar grounds and personalities. It is our last chance to share in our thoughts about our experience in Patagonia over drinks and fine food with good friends.
