It all starts with the lead guide, and owner Francisco or "Pancho". Wise beyond his years, and a fanatic about detail, he addressed and solved every potential glitch in lodging, guiding, dining, and especially fishing.

Pancho is fluently bilingual, upbeat, considerate, patient and flexible. The best example of all his dedication was a lake day, with plenty of wind. So much, in fact, that two oars were not enough to move against the wind. Pancho stowed the oars, did not start the motor( not putting the fish down),but rather jumped into two feet of water and 18 inches of muck and TOWED THE RAFT INTO THE WIND FOR 45 MINUTES.
Salmo Patagonia Lodge is first class, great food, service, and accommodations. Our fellow guests, guided by others, were clearly envious of our quality experience.
If I were a better typist, I would go on forever. The short take: do not miss this opportunity to fish Patagonia with such a dynamic guide - Pancho.
WHEN, NOT IF, I go again, my change would be..... staying for two weeks. If you fail to have the best time ever, you have not been paying attention.
And having Brian along was priceless, as you well know. He multiplied every facet of the trip, helped with travel plans, arrangements, gear, fishing, world class photography, and his unique passion for trout.
The short take: do not miss this opportunity to fish Patagonia with such a dynamic combination of Pancho and Brian.
Vaya con dios, eh?

Moreover, all your assistance at the lodge and on the river was much appreciated. You, Poncho and Luis looked after all the details that made it a most memorable fishing trip.

I highly recommend Pancho. He is one of the best guides I know. He took me to extraordinary fishing places and every thing was very well organized.

Hola Pancho,
Our week in Patagonia is one that we will remember for all time. Patagonia truly is a spectacularly beautiful place with breathtaking scenery, friendly people and great fly fishing in many rivers, lakes and streams.

I can't express how impressed we were with your talents as a guide and your commitment to your customer's enjoyment. You showed a rare combination of fly fishing knowledge and skill combined with patience and a great touch for dealing with people. While I consider myself to be an avid fly fisher, I still learned new things each day but never felt I was being instructed. Your shore lunches also set a new standard in guiding.
The trophy fish we caught were an important part of the Patagonian trip but you and Diego made it an incredible experience.
Thanks again for a wonderful trip. See you again soon.

Oscar and Fly Fishing Guide Pancho with Patagonia Brown Trout

If you are a fisherman interested in fishing the most remote, native, wild trout you must at least once in your life visit Chilean Patagonia. The Trip is framed in a pristine landscape, crystalline waters and surrounded by views that surprise and soften even a hard heart.

My friends and I have had the good fortune to fish Chilean Patagonia with Francisco Vilches from Huillin fly fishing adventures. With Francisco we have faced different seasons and very diverse conditions on lakes, rivers and lagoons of Chile. Whether we fished during sunshine, snow, wind or cold, we managed to enjoy unforgettable fights with trophy Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Salmon due to his knowledge and professionalism in fly fishing.
The support he provides to the fisherman in the selection of the flies and locations has guaranteed us that after each day we do not return disappointed. I emphasize that regardless of your technical level of the angling Francisco has the patience and knowledge to help even beginner anglers catch fish! His ability to read the water, choose the best presentation, and suggest the perfect cast, comes together in perfect order to get a strike and catch a trout.
The service that he and his team give is excellent and fundamental in order to face Patagonia: very comfortable but tough vehicles will move you between the different areas of occasionally rough terrain. Some areas are a few hours away.
No less important a part of his service are the shore lunches, meals and lodging which fulfill all the expectations that an angler or client would hope to receive. From the arrival at the airport until the goodbye at the end of the trip, the time that we spent next to this young guide has always been warm, comfortable and it has made me return and continue knowing and fishing Patagonia.

Chile boasts some of the world's best trout fishing for serious anglers. The country also possesses one of the world's best fishing guides in you.
Nicolas was wonderful himself, accommodating, personable, knowledgable, and indefatigable when it came to operating the raft.
By hook or crook, we will return before others get the word of what an experience this is.

I would go again... we should and could have fish right here in Ontario in the numbers that are standard in Chile. The sights are amazing, the Chilean people are some of the kindest friendliest people I have met and being able to sight fish for 24 inch rainbows and browns is great.

Fishing, food and accommodations were excellent. I cannot say enough about Pancho and Nicolas the two guides that worked with us. The weather was not the best and can change within 10 minutes so go prepared for that. The 2 guides put us on and into fish every day and the lunches were stellar. Be prepared to have some world class red wine at lunch or a high quality beer.
If you ask nicely a Chilean BBQ (Asado) might be arranged, it is amazing!
Everything is taken care of - food and drinks, unless you go into town which I highly recommend going to the artisan market if you do, and doing whatever shopping you wish, wood fired pizza places are a dime a dozen and all are good. Rooms cozy, a radio in the shower and Rabbits and Alpacas at your window.
